Mare Island’s annual Light Night a success

Complete with hot cocoa, cocktails, and a successful coat drive, the event was a hit.

Among the free-flowing cocoa and cocktails, hundreds of spectators gathered Friday night to anxiously await the annual lighting of Mare Island’s colossal Christmas tree. Like a scene out of a Hallmark movie, children danced, people cheered, and even the Grinch made an appearance.

Nestled in the old Navy Shipyard, in the Mare Island core, the event was in support of Vallejo Together, a local organization dedicated to providing resources for the unhoused community.

Guests were encouraged to bring new or lightly used coats in exchange for a free holiday cocktail. By the looks of it, the cocktail coat drive was as successful as it was  enticing.
